WHEN THE ENEMY CALLS YOU A COPYCAT.
I have been reading Ephesians this morning and something struck me and I wanted to share this with you. It’s about “imitating”.
In Ephesians 5:5 it says “be imitators of God in everything you do”
Often we find ourselves imitating one another and we think this is a bad thing. Because the enemy has saturated the world thinking being one of a kind means you can’t think alike, you can’t act alike...
I remember some months back posting a “quote” on one of my website and I can sincerely say - I thought it was “my own”. So I signed my name underneath. Until a few weeks in, I saw someone else post that same quote on her social media signed by the true author (who also happens to be one of the Fathers of my Church whom I dearly love.) I was immediately struck by fear! My mind flooded with thoughts like “who do I think I am?” “People are going to think I am trying to be like this person?” “There is nothing special about me” “My words are not even my own!” “Is everything I think, not my own?”
The enemy came and clothed me with SHAME!!! That’s what he does, the Bible says in John 10:10 9 (NIV) “ the thief comes only to steal, and kill and destroy…”
But then the Lord reminded me that it is a good thing to be imitators of one another WHO FOLLOW JESUS.
“Dear friends, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God…” 3 John 1:11 (NIV)
REMINDER: Holy Spirit is the one that gives us discernment to what is evil and good.
Listen, we will all imitate each other in some way or form because we are ALL following JESUS. True followers of Christ will look alike - we are all going the same direction, with love, with power, with perseverance, with patience, with endurance, with grace...
So if today your questioning your authenticity - can I just say “please stop and flush all those negative thoughts. Those thoughts aren’t from God!
It is never too much or too loud when it comes to the spreading the Gospel. The world needs to hear, see and experience the love of Christ in so many ways - Don’t be afraid to be you, to come as you are - even if it’s in imitation of one another!!
